Mainland Affairs Council Minister Katherine Chang said that Taiwan welcomes tourists from China. That’s amidst a drop in visitors from China recently. She also said she hopes there are no political considerations when it comes to tourism.
Premier Lin Chuan on Tuesday said that every visitor is welcome to Taiwan.
Lin said, "I want to emphasize that we welcome every tourist who comes to Taiwan. We also hope that when they come to visit, they can experience the warmth of the people here and have a good impression of Taiwan. We believe that these visitors are worthy of our hospitality. There is no difference between (different tourists)."
Minister without portfolio Chang Ching-sen also said on his Facebook page that Chinese tourists are people we need to befriend the most. He said he hopes that people will not have any biases towards Chinese visitors. His post led to much discussion, which led Cabinet spokesman Tung Chen-yuan to clarify that Chang was speaking for himself, not the government.
