Premier says prevention key to tackling corruption
Premier Jiang Yi-huah

Premier Jiang Yi-huah says prevention is the key to wiping out corruption. The premier was speaking on Thursday at a Cabinet meeting held in light of a bribery case involving former deputy Taoyuan County commissioner Yeh Shih-wen.

Jiang said the agency in charge of fighting corruption must take steps to stop corruption from happening in the first place. He said if necessary, those suspected of corruption could be transferred to another position as a preventive measure.

Cabinet spokesperson Sun Lih-chyun explained.

“Once the agency has proof of corruption, the department head should take appropriate measures," Sun. "All department heads have probably experienced similar situations. The head should bring the person in question to the ethics unit to be dealt with. Even if there is no absolute proof, preventative measures must be taken so that the matter won’t evolve into a major scandal and damage the government’s image.”
