PFP: James Soong may represent Taiwan at APEC
People First Party Chairman James Soong

The People First Party (PFP) has indicated that party chairman James Soong may represent Taiwan at the upcoming APEC meeting in Peru if President Tsai Ing-wen requests it.

The party was responding to media reports saying that Tsai has already picked Soong for the job. Though Taiwan is an APEC member, its leader is barred from attending APEC meetings due to Chinese opposition.

On Wednesday, PFP press department head Vivian Huang said that her party is willing to do anything for the good of the country and its people.

"I want to emphasize that the People First Party is willing to assist and promote anything that benefits the country and its people, regardless of who is in office, and no matter how big or small the matter is. We have already been doing so and will continue to do so," Huang said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Legislative President Tsai Chi-chang said that Soong would be a suitable candidate if he is President Tsai Ing-wen’s choice. He said that Soong has maintained a good relationship with Beijing and is someone Beijing trusts.
