The Taipei City Government will withhold the termination of its contract with the Farglory Group, builder of the controversy-ridden Taipei Dome. That was the word from Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je on Thursday. Ko was speaking one day after Farglory promised to improve the project’s safety standards to meet the government requirements.
Farglory had completed 80% of the sports complex, but work was suspended in May 2015 due to public safety concerns. Ko said that the government is giving Farglory another chance to improve the situation.
"I want to stress that the Taipei City Government is not giving up on terminating the contract, but it is retaining the right to do so. Today, with Farglory showing signs of goodwill, we are temporarily withholding cancellation of the contract," Ko said. "We will still continue to monitor their actions. We will make sure that our citizens see the government’s determination. We hope that Farglory will begin work on improving the safety of the Taipei Dome immediately."
Ko said if Farglory fails to meet requirements, the city government will terminate the contract.
