Former Palace Museum director takes consulting post in Beijing

Former National Palace Museum director Feng Ming-chu has announced that she has accepted an invitation to serve as a consultant for the Palace Museum in Beijing.

The National Palace Museum in Taipei houses part of the Beijing Palace Museum’s original collection. The objects were brought to Taiwan by retreating Nationalist forces at the end of the Chinese Civil War.

Feng stepped down as the Taipei museum’s director on May 20. In July, she received an invitation to serve as one of three unpaid consultants to the Beijing museum. Feng says that the post is a chance to bring honor to Taiwanese academia and the Taipei palace museum. However, Feng expressed frustration at the political spin she says commentators have put on her decision to accept the post.
