The Central Weather Bureau says that a tropical depression near Guam may affect weather in Taiwan around the Mid-Autumn Festival next week. The bureau says it is watching to see whether the storm will develop into a typhoon.
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 15 this year. In Taiwan, the festival is a popular time for moon watching, traveling, and having barbecues. However, a Central Weather Bureau forecaster said Friday that the tropical depression near Guam may turn north and approach Taiwan in the coming days, bringing bad weather.
If the storm develops into a typhoon, it will be the 14th typhoon of the season and will be called Typhoon Meranti. The Central Weather Bureau says that it will continue to track the storm.
