The Central Weather Bureau says that a tropical depression near Guam could develop into the 14th typhoon of the season as early as Saturday. The storm is expected to come close to Taiwan between Tuesday and Thursday.
The storm has not weakened as quickly as models had indicated it might. Once the storm becomes a typhoon, it will be called Typhoon Meranti. The approaching storm is expected to bring bad weather to the north and east. As Taiwan prepares for the Mid-Autumn Festival on Thursday, the Central Weather Bureau says that the public should also prepare for a typhoon.
