President Tsai Ing-wen is set to inspect the marines and an armored brigade on Monday.
It’s been a decades-old practice for Taiwan’s leaders to inspect the troops ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on September 15th this year.
President Tsai will first pay a visit to the 66th marine brigade in Taoyuan to inspect the combat troop’s physical fitness training. The soldiers there will also demonstrate equipment such as Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAV), Kestrel anti-armor rockets, and the Cardinal II Unmanned Aircraft System.
Tsai will then inspect the 542nd armored brigade stationed in Hsinchu city. The inspection will focus on both regular combat gear and the gear for special operations forces.
The military says that President Tsai is expected to speak about combat gear on Monday.
