Eleven Taiwanese nationals arrested in Indonesia last month on fraud charges were sent back to Taiwan on Tuesday.
Cooperation between Indonesian and Taiwanese police authorities resulted in the suspects being returned to Taiwan rather than deported to China, as has happened in similar cases this year.
Police arrested 31people suspected of organized international fraud suspects in Jakarta in early August. Eleven of the suspects were found to be from Taiwan.
In similar cases this year, Malaysia and Kenya have deported Taiwanese nationals suspected of telecom fraud to China. Chinese authorities have claimed legal jurisdiction on the grounds that the victims of the alleged fraud are in China. Attempts by Taiwanese authorities to have the suspects returned to Taiwan instead for trial have failed in these instances.
