Premier says he will work to revitalize Taiwan’s economy
Premier Lin Chuan

Premier Lin Chuan says he will work to revitalize Taiwan’s economy by focusing on innovation, employment and distribution. Lin was speaking at the legislature on Tuesday.

Lin has set six new goals. This includes the transformation and upgrade of industries, establishing a social safety net, and enhancing environmental sustainability. The government will also hold a meeting on pension reforms to secure financial needs for seniors and disabled people.

Lin said, “We set up a pension reform office on June 8 to deal with pension related issues. Follow up work will include modifying related laws and regulations.”

As for relations with China, the premier said the government’s core value is to maintain the status quo and to keep cross-strait peace and stability.

“We will continue to push for cross-strait interaction and talks. On the basis of mutual parity and respect, we hope to communicate issues with sincerity and to build consistent, predictable and sustainable cross-strait relations,” said Lin.

Lin said Taiwan will continue to progress and move forward as long as the government is unified.
