On this day in 1975, a Japan Asia Airways DC-8 touched down in Taipei, signifying the resumption of service between Taiwan and Japan by the flagship carriers of the two countries. The service had been suspended after Japan switched diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing in September 1972.

On this day in 1978, a computerized typewriter for the Chinese language was developed in Taiwan.

On this day in 1996, the United States removed Taiwan from a wildlife conservation watch list in recognition of its progress in protecting endangered species.
