Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung met Thursday with a delegation of representatives from Taiwanese businesses affected by anti-China riots in Vietnam last month.
During the meeting, Nguyen promised to protect the rights of Taiwanese businesses operating in Vietnam.
Taiwan’s representative to Vietnam, Huang Chih-peng, also thanked Prime Minister Nguyen for his concern for Taiwanese businesses affected by the rioting. Huang said that government agencies and local governments in Vietnam must implement policies to help the affected businesses.
Taiwanese businesses with operations in Vietnam suffered extensive property damage during anti-China riots last month. Taiwanese businesses were presumably targeted because of their Chinese-language signs.
Taiwanese businesses in Vietnam report that the Vietnamese government’s positive response in the wake of the riots has helped 95% of affected businesses reopen. However, 24 Taiwanese businesses are still recovering.
