Taiwan Power Company is working around the clock to restore power to all of the households affected by Typhoon Meranti.
Some one million households across Taiwan lost power during the typhoon. As of Monday morning, 99% of those households have had their power restored. Taipower says it plans to connect the remaining one percent by 5pm on Tuesday.
Typhoon Meranti swept through Taiwan last Wednesday, knocking down over 400 utility poles and damaging another 300. Powerful winds ripped signs from buildings and toppled trees, causing further damage to power lines.
All of the remaining households without power are located in two of the hardest hit areas -- the southern county of Pingtung and the outlying island of Kinmen. Pingtung, in particular, saw heavy damage to approximately 500 meters of road, which is making it difficult for workers to reinstate power in remote areas.
