Incoming Cabinet spokesperson Hsu Kuo-yung has vowed to better explain government policies to the public.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmaker was announced on Sunday as a replacement for Tung Cheng-yuan.
Hsu is a lawyer-turned-politician who used to have his own political TV and radio shows. He will take office on October 1.
In an interview with the local media on Monday, Hsu promised to better explain government policies to the public. He said that the way he does that won’t be the same as when he was a political pundit.
“I think we need to focus more on explaining our policy [to the public]. When I [take office], I will fulfill my duties to the best of my ability. I am not very familiar with [Premier] Lin Chuan, but the [job] is about policies," said Hsu.
Rumor has it that Hsu is setting his sights on the Taipei mayoral elections in 2018. But he said he is not that “politically calculating.”
The outgoing Cabinet spokesperson Tung Cheng-yuan will go on to serve as an advisor at the National Security Bureau.
