Transport minister urges ICAO support in National Interest
Transportation minister Ho Chen Tan

The website of the US-based National Interest magazine on Monday published a piece by the transportation minister, Ho Chen Tan. The article urged greater international support for Taiwan’s participation in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The minister pointed out that Taiwan is located in the busiest section of airspace in East Asia. Last year, Taipei’s main airport was ranked the 11th busiest in the world for passenger volume and sixth for cargo.

Ho Chen said that Taiwan over four decades has outdone many other countries in putting the ICAO’s safety and security regulations into practice. He said that Taiwan shares in the responsibility of safeguarding regional and global aviation safety as a member of the international community.

The minister said Taiwan is an indispensable part of the global air transport network and its meaningful participation in ICAO activities is a necessity.
