The defense ministry plans to train cybersecurity experts and introduce a system of volunteer reservists. That was the word from defense minister Feng Shih-kuan on Wednesday.
Feng was speaking before the Legislature’s committee on foreign relations and defense. He said that the danger posed by cyber-attacks has grown, and so the defense ministry has looked at the steps other countries have taken to cope with the threat.
He said that the military has begun cooperation with experts, scholars, and officials to train a cybersecurity force. Feng said that recruits have come from military academies, reserve officer training programs at universities, existing service personnel and civilian experts.
Meanwhile, Feng said that the military will also meet its recruitment needs by introducing a system of volunteer reservists to serve as required. The reservists would help fill the ranks alongside professional soldiers and men completing their mandatory four months of military training.
