Taiwan’s defense ministry said on Friday that the US is committed to helping Taiwan defend itself. The ministry was referring to a recent US Department of Defense report on the Chinese military.
The US report warns of China’s growing military might and said that China’s priority is to be ready for a possible military conflict with Taiwan. It said that China's goals included keeping the US out of any cross-strait conflict.
The US report also reiterated the United States' commitment to Taiwan through the Taiwan Relations Act, which means that the US will help provide defensive weapons to Taiwan.
A defense ministry spokesman said that the ministry will work on training a small but strong and innovative military so that it can protect the nation.
