National Palace Museum director Lin Jeng-yi has laid out plans for the museum’s southern branch.
Lin was speaking at a meeting of the Legislature’s committee on education and culture. The southern branch, in Chiayi County, opened its doors at the end of last year.
Lin said that the branch will make itself more accessible to the public by opening up more of the museum’s collection. Among the other plans for the museum is a center for national treasures for the display of artifacts on loan from other museums.
Lin said he hopes to set up an organization for the promotion of Taiwan’s museums that would help coordinate exhibitions, publishing, and marketing. Lin also said the National Palace Museum will work to build itself into an international brand by promoting joint exhibits with museums around the world and international research cooperation.
