The foreign ministry says Taiwan has not yet received an invitation to participate in this year’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) forum.
The World Aviation Forum will open in Montreal, Canada on Tuesday. The forum is held every three years. Taiwan attended the last meeting in 2013 as an observer. However, Beijing’s opposition to the government of President Tsai Ing-wen appears to be affecting Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, which is greatly dependent on goodwill from China.
Earlier in the week, Foreign Minister David Lee said that Taiwan will be unable to attend the forum unless an invitation is received by Friday.
On Thursday, the foreign ministry said that it will ask friendly nations, including the country’s diplomatic allies, to support Taiwan’s return to the ICAO forum.
