Aviation safety is a human right: President Tsai
TSAI ING-WEN

President Tsai Ing-wen says aviation safety is a human right which should not be denied of or influenced by political factors. Tsai was speaking Friday while meeting a visiting delegation from the European Parliament.

On Friday, the government acknowledged Taiwan would not be invited to this year’s meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Tsai said Taiwan has maintained flight safety for 42 years with information that is “late, indirect and patchy” and should be included in ICAO acivities.

“If aviation safety should not be comprised, then let Taiwan gather accurate information provided by the ICAO in an equal, direct and effective way. This is the best way to ensure aviation safety. Taiwan should not be excluded from a forum aimed at promoting global aviation safety because of political factors," said Tsai.

Tsai said the people of Taiwan have been working hard to take part in international organizations and activities in a dignified and fair way.
