Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) may offer incredibly fast transportation, but some riders say that the speed of WiFi service is nowhere near as fast, especially in mountainous areas and when trains go through tunnels.
Now the high speed railway authority is looking to fix that problem. A railway spokesperson, Max Liu, said Sunday that THSR has spent more than a year evaluating the issue and has installed free WiFi service in select cars. Liu said that they are looking to provide fast and stable service even when the trains are going through tunnels.
The spokesperson said that it’s not an easy task upgrading the railway’s WiFi system, because it involves independent telecom operators, and technicians have to ensure that it won’t affect the other computer systems on board. A bidding process for the new system is likely to begin next year.
