Meteorologists are monitoring Typhoon Megi which is approaching Taiwan and increasing in both size and strength. They say the typhoon is likely to pose the biggest threat on Tuesday.
The Central Weather Bureau says it is likely to issue a sea warning late on Sunday, and a land warning on Monday morning.
As of Sunday evening, Megi was located about 1,100 km east-southeast of Taiwan’s southernmost tip, moving at a speed of 24 km/hour toward Taiwan’s southeast coast.
Forecasters say the typhoon is packing maximum sustained winds of 38 m/second and its radius has expanded to 180 km and could further increase to 220 km, posing a serious threat to all parts of Taiwan.
Forecasters say that starting on Monday, areas in northern and eastern Taiwan will begin to experience rain ahead of the typhoon.
