Tainan reservoirs release over 400 million tons of water
The Tsengwen Reservoir

Two reservoirs serving the Tainan area have together released more than 400 million tons of water after a wet September. That’s according to figures from the Taiwan Water Corporation and the Southern Region Water Resources Office.

September brought heavy rains to the south of Taiwan, which led to flooding in 60% of Tainan City’s districts. The storms that passed through the area last month included a string of three typhoons. The rains have left Taiwan’s largest reservoir, the Tsengwen Reservoir, completely full. They have also filled the region’s Nanhua reservoir to capacity.

The wet weather comes just over a year after a drought which led to water rationing in some areas of Taiwan. Officials now say that not only is there enough water to get the Tainan area through the end of the year, there is also likely to be enough for irrigating the area’s first rice crop next year.
