President Tsai Ing-wen has announced that she will begin calling weekly policy coordination meetings.
Tsai made the announcement at an academic conference Saturday. The meetings will bring together cabinet officials and leading figures in Tsai’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), along with leaders in the DPP legislative caucus and representatives from local governments.
Tsai said the meetings will allow officials to determine the direction and pace of policy. She also said that the meetings will make government decision making more efficient and comprehensive.
Tsai said that the first of the weekly meetings has been scheduled for Monday. Presidential Office spokesperson Alex Huang later said that discussions at Monday’s meeting are likely to include the introduction of a five-day work week.
