Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said Sunday it’s hoping to hold talks with its Chinese counterpart to add extra flights during the Chinese New Year holidays next year. That’s despite a cooling in relations between the two sides.
CAA chief Lin Kuo-hsien says there is a mechanism in place for negotiating additional Lunar New Year flights to keep up with demand. He said his administration will try to set up a meeting in the near future.
The CAA says, though, that it’s not confident the annual talks – usually held in November – will come to fruition. That’s in light of the stalling of cross-strait communication ever since President Tsai Ing-wen took office in May.
If the talks are held in keeping with precedent, they would take place in Taiwan, since they were held last year in China.
