Taiwan remained the largest integrated circuit products exporter to China in the first seven months of this year. That’s according to the economics ministry on Saturday. The second largest exporter was South Korea.
When it came to flat panel exports during the same period, though, South Korea retained the top spot, followed by Taiwan.
The economics ministry data showed that Taiwan and South Korea, which have a lot of similar industries, have been competing head-to-head in the high-tech market in China.
According to the data, Taiwan grasped a 37 percent share in China's IC import market, including sales to Hong Kong, for the first seven months of this year. That’s up from 35.4 percent for the same period in 2015. South Korea's share stood at 24.8 percent in the same period this year, down from 25.7 percent in 2015.
The economics industry said that the data was evidence that Taiwan, home to the world's largest contract chipmaker -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., and many competitive IC designers and packaging and testing services suppliers -- firmly maintained the lead over South Korea in the China semiconductor market.
