President Ma Ying-jeou says that he hopes that an upcoming session of the legislature will help resolve a number of issues affecting cross-strait relations.
Ma was speaking Monday during a meeting with New York University law professor Jerome Cohen.
Ma said he hopes the legislature will make progress towards setting up a mechanism that would supervise all cross-strait agreements. He also said he would like to see the legislature make progress on the issue of free economic pilot zones and the stalled cross-strait trade in services agreement.
During his meeting with Cohen, Ma also commented on the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre in China. Ma called on China to rehabilitate and improve its treatment of dissidents in order to reduce the gap between China and Taiwan.
