The legislature will open a special session on Friday. But lawmakers are saying there probably will not be enough time to discuss the controversial trade in services pact with China.
Ruling Kuomintang (KMT) lawmaker Lin Hung-chih said on Tuesday that the session will focus on the bill for approving personnel for the Examination Yuan and Control Yuan.
"This special session is very short. There is not much time and the trade in services agreement still needs to be reviewed," said Lin.
"We need to first discuss the bill on monitoring cross-strait agreements before we put it on the agenda. But that bill has not been submitted yet for a review so it doesn’t look like there will be time to deal with the trade in services agreement in this special session."
Other issues on this session’s agenda include the free economic pilot zone, subsidies for senior farmers, and a bill on long-term care services.
Opposition lawmaker Ker Chien-ming said that this is probably the most complicated agenda for a special session in the legislature’s history. He said that the exact agenda will be clearer when the legislative president meets with the opposition and ruling camps on Thursday.
