President welcomes new Palauan ambassador
Ties between Taiwan and Palau

President Ma Ying-jeou met with Palau’s new ambassador to Taiwan, Dilmei L. Olkeriil on Tuesday. During the meeting, Olkeriil submitted her diplomatic credentials. Meanwhile, President Ma praised the strength of Taiwan’s relations with Palau.

Ma commended the results of cooperation in the fields of technology, medicine and hygiene, personnel training, and clean energy.

The president highlighted an international referral system set up between Taiwan’s Shin Kong Hospital and Palau’s Belau National Hospital.

"Taiwan’s Shin Kong Hospital and Palau’s Belau National Hospital have set up a partnership. Palauans who are referred to Taiwan are given good care,"said Ma.

"This plan will continue to move forward, as cooperation between the two sides is good. Taiwan’s Health, Welfare, and Environment Foundation and Palau’s Ministry of Health are working together on a bilateral medical cloud computing plan, which was launched in May this year. I hope that during Your Excellency’s time in the Republic of China, we can work together on plans to provide medical aid."

The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.

President Ma also said that there are 22 exchange students from Palau currently studying in Taiwan. He said he hopes that these students will become important promoters of friendship between Taiwan and Palau.
