Cabinet spokesperson Sun Lih-chyun says that the Cabinet has resolved to cut Taiwan’s energy consumption by 1% over the next year. That’s a total of 2.452 billion kilowatt-hours.

Sun made the announcement following a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. According to Sun, the government will take the lead in reducing energy consumption, with industry and private citizens expected to follow its lead.

Meanwhile, Premier Jiang Yi-huah says that the Bureau of Energy’s Energy Park website will offer people energy saving tips, offer incentives for saving energy, and encourage people to share their views. Jiang has also said that the government’s own energy saving plan will be a topic of discussion at next week’s Cabinet meeting.
