Cultural Minister Lung Yingtai has called for Germany to value the importance of Taiwan’s culture. Lung was speaking during a meeting with Chinese media reporters in Germany on Wednesday. Lung is on a ten-day trip to Germany and Switzerland to promote cultural exchanges between Taiwan and the two European countries.
Lung said she had met with the State Secretary of Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, Stephan Steinlein on Tuesday. In her meeting with Steinlein, Lung said Taiwan is small compared to Mainland China but said that Taiwan has a rich culture. Lung said she hopes that Germany will respect Taiwan’s cultural prowess.
The meeting between Lung and Steinlein was the highest level meeting between the two countries in many years in the absence of official ties.
