President Ma Ying-jeou met with four diplomatic allies’ ambassadors to the United Nations on Wednesday. He received the UN envoys of Sao Tome and Principe, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Dominican Republic, and Burkina Faso at the Presidential Office Building.
During the meeting, Ma said that ties between Taiwan and its diplomatic allies remain firm. He also said that cooperation between Taiwan and its diplomatic allies has expanded in the six years of his presidency.
Ma told the envoys that although Taiwan is unable to participate in most UN-sponsored activities, Taiwan has enshrined the ideals of the UN in its constitution. He also said that Taiwan has taken action to put the UN’s ideals into practice. He said that Taiwan has worked hard to implement the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Ma asked Taiwan’s allies to report to the UN on Taiwan’s efforts to realize the spirit of the UN Charter.
