New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu is running for reelection. He said Tuesday that he will finish his second four-year term if re-elected in November. That’s despite speculation that he might run for president in 2016.
Chu said he likes his current job and that it is a busy but fulfilling job. He said there is a huge urban-rural gap in New Taipei City, which makes it as difficult to run as a country.
Chu said that while he’s been able to accomplish the projects he proposed four years ago when he first ran for mayor, he’s discovered even more needs for the city. He said he believes his administration can make the city an even better place.
Polls have shown that the citizens of New Taipei City are content with the local government’s performance and that most of them support Chu’s reelection.
Chu said that if he is reelected, he will complete the four-year term, and that President Ma Ying-jeou supports his decision to run for reelection.
