Taiwan’s national basketball team – called Chinese Taipei -- is set to play in the 5th FIBA Asia Cup, in Wuhan, China. Teams around Asia gather every two years to participate in the basketball tournament.
This year’s event will kick off on Friday and last through July 19th. The champion will automatically qualify for next year’s FIBA Asia Championship.
Since Taiwan has its sights set on the 17th Asian Games to be held in Incheon, Korea in September, most of the players heading to China are relatively young.
The head of the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association, Ting Shou-chung, said he hopes that the tournament will be a wonderful experience for the team.
With Uzbekistan’s withdrawal from the competition, the Chinese Taipei team, will advance directly to the quarterfinals along with Jordan, Singapore and the Philippines.
