New Taipei City mayor encourages businesses to invest in India
New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu has returned from a six-day private visit to India with his family. He said on Monday that Taiwanese businesspeople should invest more in India’s market.

“It has been eight years since I last visited India," said Chu. "The country has made significant improvement over the years. Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and almost all our competitors have invested heavily in the Indian market. But Taiwan has been ignoring a lot of investment opportunities in India and Indonesia. India has 1.2 billion people, and Indonesia has 300 million. I believe that businesspeople should invest in different markets at the same time in order to lower risks, and I believe businesses should increase investment in India.”

Chu says he sees India as an emerging market with great potential and he’s hoping for a stronger partnership between Taiwan and the South Asian nation.
