Two Taiwanese companies have won an order from Mexico to make seven million LCD televisions.
Taiwan’s leading electronics contract manufacturer, Honhai Precision Industry Company, will be responsible for assembly and shipping, while display technology maker, Innolux Corporation, will provide the flat panel displays.
The Mexican government’s order for seven million 23.6-inch LCD TVs over three years is part of a government subsidy policy. That involves reselling the products at a lower cost in order to encourage consumers to buy new products.
The two Taiwanese companies are expected to ship the first 2-3 million televisions this year.
An industry analyst said Taiwan’s flat panel makers are scrambling to meet the high demand for IT products.
