The most famous piece in the collection of Taiwan’s National Palace Museum, the Jadeite Cabbage with Insects, is set to make a grand return to Taipei.
The famous cabbage was in Japan for a special exhibition at the Tokyo National Museum. It was the first time that the Jadeite Cabbage was exhibited abroad. The piece was only on display in Tokyo for two weeks, but drew more than 150,000 visitors. Visitors had to queue up for an average of more than three hours in order to see the piece.
Taiwan’s National Palace Museum said due to security concerns, it cannot disclose the time and date of the Jadeite Cabbage’s return journey. But it said that the Jadeite Cabbage will definitely appear in the Taipei museum on Friday.
The National Palace Museum in Taiwan houses the world's largest collection of classical Chinese art. Its collection has over 600,000 pieces from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The treasures were originally the property of the imperial court in Beijing. The Republic of China government brought about 3,000 crates of treasures with it when it relocated to Taiwan following the Chinese Civil War. These are the treasures that are now on display in the museum in Taipei.
