On this day in 1754, Benjamin Franklin, the representative from the colony of Pennsylvania, presented the Albany Congress with a proposal for union between the British colonies.

On this day in 2006, Italy won its fourth FIFA World Cup title after defeating France 5-3 in a penalty shootout in the final. Extra time had finished in a 1-1 draw in the game held in Berlin.

And on this day in 2013, Taiwan signed an economic cooperation agreement (ECA) with New Zealand, a pact considered a starting point for Taiwan's participation in regional economic integration. The agreement signed in Wellington was Taiwan's first free trade deal with a country with which it does not maintain diplomatic relations.
