Foreign ministry to host forum on CEDAW

Taiwan’s eastern Hualien County will hold several events on Friday to promote the Convention of the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

Though Taiwan is not a member of the UN, it signed CEDAW into law after passing the Enforcement Act of CEDAW in 2011. A three-day meeting was held last month to review Taiwan’s second report on the implementation of CEDAW.

The foreign ministry said on Wednesday that the activities in Hualien will include a three-hour forum to educate the public on the importance of CEDAW. The forum will also probe into issues concerning the prevention of sexual harassment against women.
