A team from Taiwan’s Chiao Tung University has been honored with another award at Solar Decathlon Europe 2014.
The Taiwanese team’s energy-saving building, called Orchid House, tied with a Spanish design, winning third place in the Solar Decathlon’s energy efficiency category.
The Taiwanese team had been awarded a perfect score in the decathlon’s Urban Design, Transportation & Affordability contest earlier in the month.
The team from Chiao Tung University is the first Taiwan has sent to Solar Decathlon Europe, the European version of the original Solar Decathlon initiated in 2002 by the US Department of Energy. The event aims to encourage designs blending affordability and consumer appeal with optimal energy production. This year’s event is being held in Versaille, France.
Teams from 19 countries have spent the past several weeks competing for the event’s 10 awards. The winner of the final award will be announced Saturday.
