Deputy representative to US to take over as deputy foreign minister
Deputy Foreign Minister Joseph Shih

Taiwan’s deputy representative to the United States Andrew J. C. Kao is set to assume the role of deputy foreign minister on Tuesday. He will take over from current Deputy Foreign Minister Joseph Shih, who will become the nation’s top representative to South Korea.

Kao and Shih will participate in a ceremony on Tuesday morning to mark the official transfer of their duties.

Kao’s role as deputy foreign minister will differ from the other two people who will concurrently hold that title. He is likely to oversee Taiwan’s interests in the United States and the Asia Pacific region.

Also, since Kao was formerly the head of the foreign ministry’s Department of Treaty and Legal Affairs, his new role is likely to encompass that as well.
