Taiwanese tennis star Lu Yen-hsun has advanced to the second round of the singles tournament at OEC Kaohsiung.
Lu is the defending champion at the international tournament, which is currently in its third year. The event is held in the city of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan.
Lu defeated Russian Denis Matsukevich 6-3 and 6-0 in the opening match on Monday.
Lu says he is happy to be back in Taiwan, where he can be with friends and family after his matches are over. He also said that he is trying to readjust to the heat of the Taiwanese summer, and hopes to be ready to play in the heat by the time the US Open begins.
The tournament in Kaohsiung will continue through Sunday. The champion will win a prize of US$125,000.
