Taiwan’s representative to France, Michel Lu, held a congratulatory banquet for the Taiwanese participants in Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 on Sunday.
The Taiwanese team’s energy-saving building, called Orchid House, swept up four of the ten awards at the event. Taiwan was the only Asian country represented at this year’s competition. The team, from Taiwan’s National Chiao Tung University, was the first Taiwan has sent to Solar Decathlon Europe, the European version of the original Solar Decathlon initiated in 2002 by the US Department of Energy.
The event aims to encourage designs blending affordability and consumer appeal with optimal energy production. This year’s event was being held in Versailles, France. Competitors from 19 countries participated in the event.
