A foreign ministry official in charge of international organizations, Chou Tai-chu, says that cross-strait ties and international relations create a positive cycle. Speaking Thursday, Chou said that this positive cycle is helpful to Taiwan’s efforts to join international organizations.
Chou cited the growing number of international organizations that have welcomed Taiwanese delegates over the past several years.
"We should look at the whole result. We have been able to send former vice presidents to APEC since 2008. In 2009, we participated in the World Health Assembly. We’ve also made gains at the International Civil Aviation Organization," said Chou. "The signs show that the improvement in cross-strait ties has a very good influence on our ability to participate in international organizations," he said.
