Taiwanese pitcher Wang Chien-ming has signed as a free agent with the Chicago White Sox. The 19-game winner has been assigned to the team's Triple-A affiliate, Charlotte Knights.
The 34-year-old righty was let go by the Cincinnati Reds after he opted out of his contract earlier this week.
Wang made his Major League debut with the New York Yankees in 2005 and had back-to-back 19-win seasons in 2006 and 2007. But he has since started only 46 games over five seasons with the New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Wang has struggled because of severe injuries to his foot, hip and shoulder. He pitched 27 innings over six starts for the Blue Jays in 2013, and posted a 3.7 ERA in 19 starts for the Cincinnati Reds Triple-A affiliate this season.
