Minister without Portfolio John Deng says that Japan can play an important role in helping Taiwan integrate into the regional economy.
Japan is actively involved in negotiations surrounding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Taiwan has expressed interest in joining these trade agreements.
Speaking at a forum on Taiwan-Japan industrial cooperation on Friday, Deng said that Japan can offer advice on joining the trade blocks. He said that Taiwan and Japan enjoy a close relationship. He also said the two countries have signed a variety of agreements, including those on investment, fisheries, and financial supervision.
Deng also said he hopes that Japanese and Taiwanese biotech firms can work together to deal with the two countries’ aging populations and take advantage of growing business opportunities in developing markets.
