A Taiwanese documentary has been selected to feature in the "Venice Classics" section in the Venice Film Festival. The section is devoted to restored classic films and documentaries on cinema.
The Taipei City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs announced the nomination on Saturday. The documentary nominated is Flowers of Taipei – New Taiwan Cinema directed by Hsieh Chilin. The department, which sponsored the making of the documentary, said it revisits the influence of a new wave of Taiwanese films in the 1980s.
The documentary will compete for a prize in the Venice Classics section. This year’s Venice Film Festival runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 6.
