The Cabinet announced Wednesday that a new minister will be taking over the administration of the Hakka Affairs Council.
The newly appointed minister, Liu Ching-chung, is a Hakka from Pingtung County in the far south of Taiwan. He has served as president of National Pingtung University of Education, where he set up a center for Hakka Studies. He has also served as Deputy Minister of the Hakka Affairs Council.
During his time with the Hakka Affairs Council, Liu has worked to promote the development of Hakka-themed products. The Cabinet says he plans to use his experience as a university professor to encourage young people to preserve Hakka culture.
