Torrential rains in southern Taiwan will not affect CPI: Gov’t

The government statistics office says recent torrential rains in southern Taiwan will not affect the consumer price index (CPI) for August.

Southern Taiwan has been affected by torrential rains and flooding for the past week. About NT$7.53 million (US$251, 000) worth of crops have been destroyed.

The statistics office said the major vegetable producing region is central Taiwan. Heavy rains have fallen mostly in Tainan and Kaohsiung on the southern part of the island. The statistics office said that vegetable prices will not be affected and so the rains will have little impact on the CPI.
