The Chinese authorities are set to allow residents of ten more cities visit Taiwan as independent travelers.

Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency announced on Thursday that as of August 18, Harbin, Taiyuan, Nanchang, Guiyang, Dalian, Wuxi, Wenzhou, Zhongshan, Yantai, and Zhangzhou will allow its residents to travel on their own to Taiwan. The move will bring the total number of cities whose residents can travel to Taiwan independently up to 36.

The immigration agency said that currently, the number of independent Chinese travelers to Taiwan remains capped at 4,000 a day. As of the end of July, more than 600,000 Chinese tourists have visited Taiwan on their own. It is likely that the number of visits by Chinese travelers will break the one million mark by the end of the year.
